MEDIA Q5

QUESTION 5- HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?

-Our newscast holds a variety of hard and soft news that our audience is attracted to the most. From the audience feedback I received on my blog, I found that my target audience was engaged to the choice of stories of soft that that was included in my newscast. The soft news which I got feedback on was the Fashion newscast on what people was wearing on Christmas and new years. This story explored what is hot and new for the Christmas season and teenagers are all about looking good and up to date on fashion so this headline was very useful for them. Moreover, my target audience was able to relate to this newscast and shopping is every teenage girl’s interest!

-Moreover, from my audience feedback I found that the radio station was very appealing to my target audience as it was entertaining for the audience due to the fun, upbeat and lively music. The music has an impact on the audience as it determines weather or not your audience want to tune into your radio station and if they are attracted to the music it puts them in a better mood. For our radio newscast we immediately started off our radio station with a welcoming and pop music and added sound effects in some areas when necessary to keep them tuned in and not bored. Since radio news consists of hearing the station without looking at it, it’s important that you add music and sound effects as an important factor.

-From my audience feedback I also received a comment saying how she liked the presenters of my newscast as they didn't bore her and kept her entertained.  This was because the presenters voices was clear and understandable. It is always an important role for the presenter to not lose interest of the audience and keep everything short, snappy and to the point. I believe our presenters for my newscast fit these roles as the audience said they wasn't bored and was interested until the end.

-We didn't use much of silence, the only aspect on where we used it was when to highlight a serious death of a cyclist. We applied a silence hear to show how serious the matter is and how the incident had a huge impact on society. Other than that, we felt that our target audience would have got bored if they heard too much silence as teenagers are young and loud.

-We also used sound effects such as noise from the busy roads in the background when referring to the cyclist story as it made them feel more engaged and part of the story. By adding the sound effects of busy roads it really connoted danger and highlighted the vulnerability felt by cyclist on roads.

-We addressed our audience by relating to the way that they talk and communicate in their everyday life. We used aspects of some slang and shortened words in order to relate to the teens and this way they will feel part of the show.

- We also didn't bore our audience with information overload and kept it short and sweet by not talking too much and didn't speak in too much detail.

Here are some of the comments i received on my blog when i posted my radio newscast!

Akfa: Today's headlines are: Cyclist killed on Mile-end Road, Youth refused bail for assault on local pensioners, slam dunk interview with paralympian star, and finally fashion trends for you to follow this Christmas. So let's start off with Shazmin with some serious news

Shazmin: Commuters were shocked to witness the death of 25yr old cyclist Patrick Hickinson on Mile-end Road last night after being hit by a lorry. Flowers have been laid out in the scene and many notes have been written in his memory. One of them touchingly read, "Dad, I know you are watching and I will never forget you". safety in London.

Bike horn sound effect

Akfa: Thanks for that Shazmin.

Music continues...

Akfa: Now for our next story we go live to Bow magistrates court with Teen Buzz roving reporter; Fahima Ferdaus

Fahima: Hi Akfa, I've just stepped out of the court room here in Bow where a 19year old boy has been charged with assault after physically assaulting an elderly man and woman on the streets of Bow. Although the defendant pleaded not guilty, he failed to be granted bail as he has previous assault convictions. This left the defendants mother in floods of tears in the public gallery. PC Rashid was also present during this hearing and has kindly agreed to talk to us at Teen Buzz FM.
So, do you think it was the right decision not giving the defendant bail?

PC Rashid: Yes of course. He has committed similar offences before, who's to say he won't do it again. People need to be punished for their crimes.

Fahima: What sentence do you think he'll receive?

PC Rashid: He will probably get off with a fine and a few months of community service as neither of the victims was too badly injured.

Fahima: Do you think young people feel safe on the streets of Bow?

PC Rashid: Well Bow isn't really the most dangerous area in east London, I think if the youngsters go out together they should feel safe

Fahima: Do you think witnesses are scared to come forward?

PC Rashid: It has happened in certain cases where the witnesses have been threatened to silence but in this case I don't think there was time for that as police arrived at the scene as soon as they got the call. But if there are any witnesses, I would advise them to come forward .

Fahima: Okay, thanks for your time. This is Fahima Ferdaus reporting for Teen Buzz FM, back to the studio.

Music carries on...
Victorious music starts to play...

Akfa: Right, let's shake it up with a bit of sports news. Live on the line we have an interview call with basketball champion Adrian Francis, an athlete who took part in the London 2012 Paralympics.

Adrian: Hello?

Akfa: Hi Adrian, Can you just tell me a bit about yourself?

Adrian: Erm, I trained in the  Paralympics in 96 Atlanta for Great Britain basketball team and we won a bronze medal.

Akfa: Do you think the 2012 games had more impact than previous years?

Adrian: Erm, I would say the impact of the Paralympics was much more strong in the 2012 games that just passed, like a lot of the numbers, we had considerably large numbers at the 2012 games compared to the games previously.

Akfa: Okay, and what challenges did you face as a disable sports man?

Adrian: Erm, challenges were, things like accessing the gym where i work for the gym at the moment because things like accessing I was finding it quite difficult on certain machinery.

Akfa: What advice would you give to disable youths to get out into sports?

Adrian: The main thing is to always have a short term goal plan that you're going to want to achieve and once you get that, you'll get to your long term goal.

Akfa: Thank you so much for speaking to us today at Teen Buzz FM.

Adrian: Cool take care

Akfa: Okay, Thank you bye.

Music carries on...
Shazmin: Now, it's nearly Christmas and us girls need to start looking for fresh new fashion trends that to make us feel and look good for the festive season. Yesterday I went out to Westfield Stratford City to find out what's hot with the shoppers.

Recording starts to play...

Shazmin: So that's all for today folks.

Akfa: Join us again tomorrow same time same place on Teen  Buzz FM.
