MEDIA Q5

QUESTION 5- HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?

-Our newscast holds a variety of hard and soft news that our audience is attracted to the most. From the audience feedback I received on my blog, I found that my target audience was engaged to the choice of stories of soft that that was included in my newscast. The soft news which I got feedback on was the Fashion newscast on what people was wearing on Christmas and new years. This story explored what is hot and new for the Christmas season and teenagers are all about looking good and up to date on fashion so this headline was very useful for them. Moreover, my target audience was able to relate to this newscast and shopping is every teenage girl’s interest!

-Moreover, from my audience feedback I found that the radio station was very appealing to my target audience as it was entertaining for the audience due to the fun, upbeat and lively music. The music has an impact on the audience as it determines weather or not your audience want to tune into your radio station and if they are attracted to the music it puts them in a better mood. For our radio newscast we immediately started off our radio station with a welcoming and pop music and added sound effects in some areas when necessary to keep them tuned in and not bored. Since radio news consists of hearing the station without looking at it, it’s important that you add music and sound effects as an important factor.

-From my audience feedback I also received a comment saying how she liked the presenters of my newscast as they didn't bore her and kept her entertained.  This was because the presenters voices was clear and understandable. It is always an important role for the presenter to not lose interest of the audience and keep everything short, snappy and to the point. I believe our presenters for my newscast fit these roles as the audience said they wasn't bored and was interested until the end.

-We didn't use much of silence, the only aspect on where we used it was when to highlight a serious death of a cyclist. We applied a silence hear to show how serious the matter is and how the incident had a huge impact on society. Other than that, we felt that our target audience would have got bored if they heard too much silence as teenagers are young and loud.

-We also used sound effects such as noise from the busy roads in the background when referring to the cyclist story as it made them feel more engaged and part of the story. By adding the sound effects of busy roads it really connoted danger and highlighted the vulnerability felt by cyclist on roads.

-We addressed our audience by relating to the way that they talk and communicate in their everyday life. We used aspects of some slang and shortened words in order to relate to the teens and this way they will feel part of the show.

- We also didn't bore our audience with information overload and kept it short and sweet by not talking too much and didn't speak in too much detail.
